Let's Get Naked

Let's Get Naked

September is always my favorite month! It feels like the month of possibility. So many fresh starts. So many transitions...

Today, in the spirit of fresh starts, I would like to talk to you a bit about body image. We know teenagers are obsessed with body image, but did you also know that many many many women (and men) in their 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's, and 70's are still unhappy with their bodies (or at least certain body parts!)?

Although magazines talk about it all the time for younger people, I realized that no one was talking about it for women over 35!

I decided to get NAKED literally and figuratively to talk about this.

I am turning 52 this week and I am still a work in progress in the body image journey. Yes, as much as I try, I still see the supposed flaws. How about you?

This is why I decided to create a day to talk about it, work on it, and deal with it and I want to share that day with YOU!

But first...

What is Body Image?

Body image is how you see yourself when you look in the mirror or when you picture yourself in your mind. It encompasses:

  • What you believe about your own appearance including your memories, assumptions, and generalizations.

  • How you feel about your body, including your height, shape, and weight.

  • How you sense and control your body as you move.

  • How you feel in your body, not just about your body.

What is Body Image?

Negative body image is when you have a distorted perception of your shape--you perceive parts of your body unlike they really are.

  • You are convinced that only other people are attractive and that your body size or shape is a sign of personal failure.

  • You feel ashamed, self-conscious, and anxious about your body.

  • You feel uncomfortable and awkward in your body.

I want to hear from you! How do you feel about YOUR body. I want the NAKED truth please!
