5 FABULOUS FOODS TO DAZZLE OUR DIETS THIS SPRING

Spring is around the corner and a great time to recommit to healthy eating. By focusing on ADDING healthy foods (instead of just taking the not-so-good things out), we can avoid feeling deprived and keep our meals tasty and arousing! Below are some of my favorites along with accompanying recipes:

1) Hemp Seeds

Hemp seeds, often referred to as hemp hearts, are a great source of plant-based protein. They are considered a complete protein like quinoa, but are also high in healthy fat. They contain gamma-linoleic acid, which may help reduce the symptoms of menopause. Try just sprinkling them on a salad or in the recipe below:

2) Zoodles

If you haven't tried raw zucchini noodles, then you are truly missing out on a nutritious, delicious, pasta substitute. You can buy a spiralizer, which is a little appliance that helps you spit out noodles from numerous veggies (like zucchini, sweet potatoes, carrots, etc.) or you can just use a peeler and top with anything you would use on pasta!

3) Ghee

Ghee, otherwise known as clarified butter, is made by melting butter and skimming the fat off of the top. The result is a yellow creamy, healthier version of butter that tastes great and is rich in vitamins. I love using it with veggies or eggs!

4) Tempeh

Tempeh is a fermented soy product with very little processing. It is high in protein, fiber, and nutrients. With it's earthy, sweet taste it can be cooked in squares, slices, or crumbled up in soups, salads, and sauces. I love making little croutons out of it for my salads. My favorite use of tempeh, though, is the recipe below!

5) Full Fat Coconut Milk

Coconut milk contains unique fatty acids that may aid weight loss, improve immune function, reduce heart disease risk and improve skin and hair health. It's a great alternative for those trying to limit dairy consumption and, because it is so satisfying, a little can go a long way.
